CollabNet unveils new build and test program to bring automation and efficiency into the management of development environments
Expanded offering first-ever integrated, end-to-end solution for multi-site software development
BRISBANE, Calif., Sep 25, 2006 — CollabNet today unveiled a significant advancement in the field of software development with the launch of an innovative program to automate the rapid setup, teardown and re-configuration of servers used for development, build and test purposes. The new offering is provided as an extension to CollabNet® Enterprise Edition, the latest release of CollabNet's integrated development environment geared towards addressing the need of globally distributed development organizations.
This new program, combined with CollabNet Enterprise Edition, is the industry's first ever solution to deliver an end-to-end multi-site development environment that incorporates the build and test phases of a software project into the application development lifecycle. This brings to the build and test phases the same degree of optimization and efficiency that CollabNet has traditionally brought to the design and code phases. CollabNet's new offering responds to the rising complexity of application environments; it enables organizations to drastically reduce development infrastructure costs by pooling servers assigned to development, build and test. It also removes risks related to discrepancies between test and deployment environments by unifying development, build and test configuration profiles.
"We've been partnering with CollabNet to deliver integrated application lifecycle management solutions to our Global 2000 customers", says Winston Damarillo, CEO at Mergere. "CollabNet's automation services are a strong complement for Maestro's build and continuous integration platform, providing an on-demand development infrastructure that provides unprecedented levels of transparency, speed, and integration throughout the development life cycle."
Development organizations can realize significant improvements by leveraging CollabNet's new build and test automation program:
- Optimization of capital intensive infrastructure used for build and test: in many organizations, development, build and test systems are assigned to a specific project and sit idle for the majority of the project lifecycle, while other projects desperately need extra systems. The new program enables development teams to track and monitor the usage plan for a pool of servers assigned to development, build and test. These servers can then be reassigned and re-configured in real-time for a different project to minimize their idle time.
- Increased productivity of development, build and test teams: many development teams setup their build and test environments manually which takes time and provide very little structure to efficiently manage system configurations. The new program enables the tracking and versioning of build and test configurations across projects in a centralized profile library located in CollabNet Enterprise Edition, enabling development teams to deploy consistent and traceable systems worldwide.
- Governance and quality:today, no development organization would code without a version control system. Unfortunately, the same level of rigor is typically not in place to track the configurations of build and test environments. Unplanned discrepancies between a test and deployment environment can cost organizations tens of millions of dollars per year. The new program enables the versioning and systematic tracking of build and test configurations so that they can be safely shared between development, test and production instances.
"CollabNet is proud to bring to market innovative services for automating the configuration of development, build and test environments", says Nick Bonfiglio, vice president of Worldwide Operations at CollabNet. "Development organizations can spend up to 40% of their time on setting up development servers manually. By automating the process, CollabNet's new program brings productivity improvements to distributed development teams and takes software development into another level of efficiency."
About CollabNet
