CollabNet Supports Subversion’s Graduation to Apache Top-Level Project
CollabNet-Founded Subversion Joins Ranks of Leading Open Source Projects
March 1, 2010 — CollabNet, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (Agile ALM), today announced its support for the Apache Software Foundation’s (ASF’s) promotion of the CollabNet-founded Subversion project from the Apache Incubator to Top-Level Project (TLP) status. The move signifies that the project’s community and products have been well-governed under the ASF’s meritocratic process and principles.

Subversion, now known formally as “Apache Subversion,” is the industry standard for software version control and software configuration management (SCM), with more than 5,000,000 users worldwide. CollabNet Subversion is an enterprise-ready distribution of Subversion that includes certified binaries, platform-specific installers, certified plugins for other tools, and enterprise-ready add-ons. CollabNet also offers Subversion support, training, and consulting services. More information is available at https://www.open.collab.net/products/subversion/.
As part of CollabNet’s continuing stewardship of the Subversion project, the company frequently polls its enterprise Subversion users, collecting feature requests and other feedback. CollabNet employs a team of Subversion “committers” — individuals authorized to make and release changes to Subversion source code — and CollabNet proactively engages Subversion committers working at other companies to meet, consider feature requests, and cooperatively determine the Subversion product roadmap.
“Continued support and sponsorship of the open source Subversion project is a key component of our strategy to provide software and services that transform the way our customers develop software as part of their larger Agile ALM lifecycle,” said Bill Portelli, chief executive officer, CollabNet. “Since Subversion began ten years ago, it has emerged as a market leader in both the enterprise and open source communities. By combining resources with Apache.org, we look forward to working with the developer and user community to invest in Subversion’s leadership position even further.”
CollabNet leads the industry in Agile application lifecycle management (Agile ALM) in the Cloud. The CollabNet TeamForge ALM platform, the CollabNet Subversion software configuration management (SCM) solution, and the ScrumWorks project management software enable teams using any environment, methodology, and technology to improve productivity 10-50% and to reduce the cost of software development by up to 80%. Millions of users at more than 2,500 organizations, including Applied Biosystems, Capgemini, Deutsche Bank, Oracle, Reuters, and the U.S. Department of Defense, have transformed the way they develop software with CollabNet.
